-        There is higher incidence of VL among HIV patients due to increased rate of disease expression among asymptomatically infected people.

-        There is higher rate of atypical disease manifestation. Example oral mucosal and other GI mucosal involvement

-        Serological diagnostics have poor performance

-        There is higher rate of treatment failure and relapse of VL with all forms of treatment and despite ART

This should be based on the experiences of the trainees. Common concomitant diseases seen include: malaria, pneumonia, otitis media, fungal skin infections, bacterial sepsis, and helminthiasis.
