Treatment Regimens
Current WHO recommended treatment regimens in East Africa, in order of choice:
- Pentavalent antimonials 20mg Sb5+/Kg IM or IV Plus Paromomycin 15mg/Kg (11mg base) IM for 17 days – efficacy 93%
- Pentavalent antimonials 20mg Sb5+/Kg/day IM or IV for 30 days
- Liposomal amphotericin B 3-5mg/kg/day IV infusion over 6-10days upto a total of 30mg/kg dose
- Amphotericin B deoxycholate 0.75-1mg/kg/day infusion daily or alternate days 15-20 doses
- Miltefosine 50mg BID PO for 28 days
